This tribute band embraces the daunting task of re-recording Zeppelin without distorting the originals beyond them being recognized. The only reason one would re-record stuff while they had the originals was unless they were embarking on a profound project that required some interpretation or variation.
In the Light of Led Zeppelin are here with their “Pompeii Sessions”, which was recorded live in Pompano Florida, that is the closest they could get to Pompeii, Italy. The band is led by Antonio Bolet, who has two Grammy nominations under his belt. The other musicians’ names are probably not familiar with most people.
“Dancing Days” proves that the band knows how to handle Zeppelin material. The singer Scott Board has a good vocal range and voice, although he did not try to emulate as Plant. The other thing you’ll observe is that the group neither tries to do the exact note for note replicas nor tries to distort originals almost beyond being recognized.
The band does a good job at infusing the originals with varying musical elements that would possibly shed a new light on the Zeppelin material. They simply pick up old glasses and clear them up with some new style. This is why their rendition of “Battle of Evermore” shines. They revealed that their inspiration is derived from the way Plant and Page re-invented their content in the 90s.
The Zeppelin renditions that come at the end serve as a reminder of the great music that the band made. This stupendous piece of work made me dig out Zeppelin albums after-which I went through them with little to no pressure.
The way this tribute band re-imagines the era of rock ‘n roll is just unique and special. The band narrowed its focus on the Page and Plant era of the band’s catalog. The album Pompeii Sessions was released on July 23, 2017. Pompeii Sessions contains seven tracks “Dancing Days,” “Ramble On,” “Battle Of Evermore,” “The Rain Song,” “Friends,” “Four Sticks,” and “Kashmir.”
