"Biography" by That Gum U Like Music Review

"Biography" Music Review

That Gum U Like, Brazilian husband and wife duo, is back, this time with a new track “Biography” that would feel right at home in Twin Peaks’ Roadhouse. The track blends lushness and punchiness in the hook and verses that are put together in an alternating and seamless fashion. This single is doomed to follow the success made by “Killer”, which made it to the Hype Machine charts for a whole week.

The Brazil-based couple has described their creations to be “Gothic shoe-gazing / Bass Heavy” due to the inclination towards the dark side of Brazil’s scene. This single is a profound concoction constituting ethereal synths that pave way for a chorus that’s reminiscent of a reggae tone blended with electro-vibes. That Gum U Like managed to add lots of beauty to the track with the infusion of Andressa D.’s calming voice. The song fades slowly into nothing as the electric guitar note soothes the listener.

The couple has managed to stand out of the crowd due to their witty and ability to create intriguing fusions of melodies from the eighties. That Gum U Like have proved they can infuse synthpop, dreampop and shoegaze with a twist that’s dark and inclined towards the gothic side.

This atmospheric single has been released after the debut EP, The Black Lodge, which made waves across the board. The band has proved to poses the skills required in genre-mixing and Biography showcases these capabilities at their best. The Popinigis' electronic production is also profound in its integration with Andressa D's wonderful vocals.

I must admit that the band took me to another realm as I rode the wave of Science Fiction and dark vibes. I can’t help but imagine the band performing the record as the dense vocals cast the echo into my eardrums, causing some extreme eargasm. You’ll definitely like this interesting composition that’s produced and mixed by Popinigis. As of this moment, the track is out now on the Quadrado Mágico label.
