The Musical Doc is set to drop a hot new single titled "Lofi" on March 26 2021.
Mixing the history, culture, and soundscape of Lofi music with R&B Jazz vocals, The Musical Doc creates a fresh sound with her new hit Single “LOFI” Produced by A. Reddy and LO. The telling premise of the song, lyrically, visually, and sonically highlight the dual nature of a confirmative society vs individuality.
TheMusical Doc takes us on a ride of the rise and fall of her self- journey through her talent and vocal performance. She flawlessly moves through various styles, emotions, harmonies, voicing, genres; Plain and simple? She rocks and we love her! Fans and critics have applauded the Doc for paving her own lane while speaking her unapologetic truth with the utmost creativity, vocal command, musicality, and word play. The Doc never fails to hit us with that one riff or tone that speaks a million words; She pays homage to her musical lineage in the second verse by adding a brilliant yet emotional classical Indian riff “I’m sorry mama, I couldn’t be another victim of their slaughter, trained to think that being different meant murder”. Lofi is a song that brings to life something old while celebrating something new.
The Doc shared “I remember growing up always feeling I didn’t belong anywhere, it took me a long time to realize, I actually didn’t belong anywhere and my path was one I would have to pave on my own. It was impossible for me to accept anything without asking the question WHY, or HOW. The same goes for my music. When Aravind and LO showed me this record they titled LOFI, I was instantly drawn to it. After writing the song, I went back and researched genesis of LOFI music, and all of a sudden it all clicked on a deeper level of consciousness. Lo-fi stands for “low-fidelity” which is the opposite of “high fidelity”, referring to the sound and production quality of a musical piece. Lo-fi artists were outliers of an increasingly commercialized music scene. Lofi music was actually defined by the inclusion of elements normally viewed as “undesirable” in a “professional context” -misplayed notes, environmental interference, or imperfections like degraded audio signals, tape hiss. It amazed me how this genre of music made its way to the mainstream while building such a tight knit community.
What better way to talk about the uprising of the black sheep tribe with our own twist!”
Producers A.Reddy and LO tells us about the minimalistic approach taken while building the production of LOFI. It started with A. Reddy taking up the challenge of making a song with two chords and LO building a drumbeat around that. After creating the bassline and locking in with the soul and groove of the record, the producers roped in their buddy Daniel Carrillo to record live bass. YUP! that catchy bassline you hear throughout the song was all live! After the Doc laid down some rough melodies, the team got together and added some cool sound effects, bird calls, jungle sounds-The Doc stated “I still remember LO making that droplet water sound effect with his mouth and we just recorded it on the spot at home! It was such a fun experience creating this overall, 3 friends sharing good vibes and having a great time.” The Doc shared how she designed the theme of the art work and artist Melinda Magyar sketched it to life. I wanted to show an image of a boss lady leaving a burning “society” or city filled with greed, ego, and pride and traveling her own star studded path. You can see the hidden texts in the image, as well as a bank going up in flames, a plane burning down advertising Souls for sale, a Ferris wheel (representative of childlike wander) up in flames. There’s levels to the journey of our true self, and same goes with all the various layers of my art”
