Lxst - "Upset" (Video)
Pensive rapper Lxst, (pronounced Lost) has released an equally thoughtful visual for his latest single “Upset.” Out today, via PIVTL Projects, this video uses a variety of glitches and indescribable focal expressions to match the emotional song’s feeling of euphoria. Watch here.
In Lxst’s creative new video for “Upset,” the rapper showcases a trip out of town with a beautiful partner who looks equal parts fascinated and annoyed with the circumstances. Their playground is a sea of forest green trees, straw-colored grass, and bright spots of blood-colored leaves. As Lxst performs, the woman stares into his eyes, longingly, as she grips his shoulders, along for the ride.
Helping this tried-and-true story play out is a unique aesthetic incorporated into the visual. Its video effects glitch in and out, giving the clip a purposefully unfinished feel that’s hard to tear your eyes away from. Two of its most visually appealing sequences are when a tree grows in front of Lxst as he performs, and, in another swift move, he disappears from view while performing. As the two stars of the video vibe in this wild world where anything is possible, your shoulders will bounce too.

Shawn Smith - "Braggadocious" (Video)
“Braggadocious” is available everywhere now - watch the video here.
With slick bars and witty wordplay, Shawn continues to prove his own as a lyrical heavyweight. After building a local buzz in Philly under the alias Young Savage and continuing the momentum with his 20-min viral freestyle on Philadelphia's Cosmic Kev radio show leading to a BET Hip Hop Awards cypher appearance, Shawn reclaimed his own name for his latest autobiographical debut, SINK OR SWIM: A SHAWN SMITH STORY. Known for his ferocious freestyles and slick punchlines, Smith’s forthcoming music zooms in on unapologetic, big-picture storytelling, highlighting his Southwest Philly upbringing. Providing perspective on his journey without pious intentions, Smith has carefully fostered that balance - equal parts sharp-tongued and warm-hearted - providing a refreshing perspective on the too common realities of growing up on the southwest side of Philly.

Get Familiar With Rising Artist: RickRated

Get Familiar With Rising Artist: RickRated
Name is RickRated, from my father the original Rick Rated.
Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?
My newest song “Jakes” was brought on by a mix of women related headaches, racism, and police injustice. Though the song was written before the tragic murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, I felt it was important to allow a respectful amount of time to pass before this release for people to focus on the protests and a quest for justice.
What is unique about you and your music?
I would like to think my sound and versatility makes me stand apart from most other artists. I pride myself on making sure I have an individual sound that’s unlike any other. My music comes from my day to day life, the things I’ve experienced, and the things that I feel. Therefore you never know what kind of song I’m going to make next.
What shaped your music?
Stories of the well known original Rick Rated. My father was murdered when I was 8 but all the OG’s who knew him always tell me what a “Legend” he was. All the big homies from the CD and even a lot from Tacoma. Everyone had love for Rick Rated. Rick Rated was even the one who taught Sir-Mix-a-lot how to rap! I kid you not, you know that song “My Posse’s on Broadway”? That song was written word for word by Rick Rated. That was his flow and everything, the only thing mix-a-lot changed in the song was his name. I’m often stopped my strangers who can guess that was my dad just because I’m apparently a spitting image. I’ve heard so many stories of how great he was. The pressure can become a little overwhelming, but I’ve got some big shoes to fill.
When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
it’s always been the dream, since I could speak I’d been hearing these stories about my dad so that all I ever wanted to do was rap and make music. Since I could speak my goal has been to be a famous Rapper. A household name.
What type of music do you listen to?
It really Varies depending on my mood. I listen to a lot of King Von, and Mike Sherm, Nipsey Hussle, bfb Packman, and BaayBaay Headbussa comin up fast out here too. But like I said it depends on my mood. Sometimes I want to listen to more soulful music with passion and purpose so I’ve got an old school playlist full of artists like New Edition, Bill Withers (god rest his soul that man needs a movie) Etta James, Keith Sweat, Isley brothers, Witney Houston, and more. It really depends.
What inspires you to write music?
like I said before I’m inspire by the things I experience in my daily life, sometimes my music can be really aggressive, others it can be passionate and meaningful, while other it’s just for the sake of the party/ vibe.
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
Every spare second and dollar is dedicated to my music and my one sole goal. If I’m not actually making or writing music, I’m marketing, branding, working on cover arts, show appearances, cameos, music videos, story lines, there’s so much more involved with being a rapper than just “Rapping” most people don’t take into account. I really don’t have much free time other than the music.
Happiness to you is…
Success. Happiness to me, is being financially secure enough to provide for my family without worry. I don’t want my kids having to get up and work like a slave their whole life to barley make it by and get caught in this pathetic cycle our government calls the “American Dream”.
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?
invest in yourself. Believe me it’s worth it. When artists have to work a job day to day to provide and pay rent it’s easy for $100-$200 to seem like a lot of money to pay for something that’s not going to directly or immediately get you a bunch of followers, or listeners over night, it’s not. You’re only cheating yourself. Create a brand, a sound, and and image, do your research, and invest in yourself. Anyone can do it.
Tell us about your upcoming projects...
Jakes is out now but I have mutiple singles dropping everywhere soon. Including “Talk Talk” (feat. BaayBaay), “Communication” (feat. Zhanea June), “Take a Risk” and “Throw a Bone”
Where do we find you music / music projects?
all of my music is available on SoundCloud as of right now. The latest release “Jakes” is available on all streaming platforms (Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music, etc.) and all music in the future will be available on all major platforms. Went through a little hiccup for a few years with digital distribution but were back up and running now and looking to release a song once a month everywhere!
Any last words for the readers?
follow me on all social media platforms, twitter, instagram, Facebook! Feel free to talk to me, I talk back! I love all my fans and supporters! “Jakes” Official Music Video is on youtube now!

Trapismyname - "Almost Perfect" EP

Trapismyname - "Almost Perfect" EP
from “Trap Story”, Trapismyname is back with 8 tracks on “Almost Perfect”. He’s taken his
sound to the next level, writing and producing his own music.
Straight out of the Bronx via Hartford, Trap pushes his chips all in for “Almost Perfect”.
Whether it’s looking back on his past or celebrating for the future, Trap pours himself out in the
lyrics on this album. Even the cover art seems to be a reflection of himself in a literal sense.
Win
the album. The lyrics on this track fit tremendously well with the Joker sample overlays. You get
that sense of grittiness like the city of Gotham itself.
Even though he wrote the lyrics before the movie, in Trap’s words “It just fit perfectly”.
Chill beats make this track a solid opening for Almost Perfect.
Cloud
recognize the quote from “Pulp Fiction”. Since being released, Cloud has been a relative hit for
Trap.
“Stuck in my ways, Stuck in my ways, Stuck in my ways.”
How I Feel
hard to understand anyone’s perspective on life, Trap gives us a non-filtered look on his. From
expressing his love for his departed mother to making sure people know he’s never going to stop;
Trap gives us a view into his world.
Trap reveals how the song came about, “One day I just woke up and I was just like *sigh* nobody really knows how I feel.”
tracks, including this one, he mentions her.
“I think about her a lot.”, said Trap. It’s this and other things that this track reveals about the
artist.
Forgive and Forget
never forget.” Fitting into that theme, a motivational speaker opens up the track.
“Always remember what they did to you so they can’t do it again”, says Trap.
We even get a peak in Trap’s personal life with a candid quip from his wife Brooke.
Bad Decisions
second. A chaotic but catchy piano rhythm draws in the listener from the get-go.
Don’t be mistaken, Trap is the only artist on this track. He’s been evolving his vocal stylings so
don’t be shocked when he changes it up.
this track. From voice manipulation to mixing, Bad Decisions is a true reflection of Trapismyname’s growth as an artist.
Following up Bad Decisions is Finessed, a song that can be interpreted by making the best of the
earlier bad decisions. Similar to Bad Decisions, the track also features a piano rhythm throughout. Trap gives shoutouts with his niece and older sisters.
“almost perfect” accidental fit as it was added after the song was written.
Gas
Everybody has a focus on securing the bag. That’s also the focus of Gas. The track is a reflection
of Trap’s growth in the past year. Naturally, Half Baked is used as a sample on the track and fits
like a glove, discussing on how to make money.
A smooth acoustic guitar riff combines with a deep bass to form this jam, so take it all in.
Speaking of making money, you can follow Trapismyname’s Spotify here.
Doubted Me
“I hated this song at first, but when I rerecorded it, I got a new love for it.”, said Trap. “I delivered it better. The recording was better. Everything just flowed.”
The final track on the album and third new release n “Doubted Me”. The emotional rollercoaster
of lyrics all builds to this; a celebration of what Trap has done and what he has in store.
“To see where I’m at is amazing,” said Trap.
Overall Review
★★★★☆
A lot of the album took inspiration from Trapismyname’s love of movies and TV. Samples from
Pulp Fiction, Half Baked, The Joker, and The Jerry Springer Show are prominent features in
“Almost Perfect”. This should be no surprise to anyone as Trap’s previous albums were named
“American Psycho” and “Trap Story”.
From a technical standpoint, “Almost Perfect” offers a much clearer sound than previous Trap
albums. That’s thanks to an upgrade in equipment. The upgrade gives some fresh remasters to
Win, Cloud, How I Feel, Bad Decisions, and Gas.
Trap himself is expanding his vocal talents on this album. At moments, Trap sounded like he
brought someone else on certain tracks. Instead, he’s been hard at work adding what he can do.
